| vigilant's Full Review: HP Pavilion 9686C |
I bought my HP Pavilion in December of 2000 at Best Buy as an early Christmas present to myself. I found mine for half the price listed on this page (just over $1,200) and couldn't pass up the deal. I had always bought "made-to-order" computer systems, or built my own and had misgivings about buying a product manufactured to be "user-friendly". I feared what would happen if I ever needed to wipe the computer or add additional hardware, but those fears were never realized.
I am a progamming student and the network administrator for our small family business. Although I have diverse needs, this computer came exactly as I needed it and now functions as our family and home-business file server and internet proxy. With remote connections in the background, intensive programs like Adobe running, and me testing my own code on it, I have never had any real problems with the system. Even though I am using it for applications it was obviously not designed for, it runs smoothly and reliably and is more than I ever expected it to be.
Any home user should be happy with this product. It is very easy to work with and reliably restores from the backup cd's (although I've never had to do this on my computer, I helped a friend restore his with no problems). It comes from the factory with everything you need to do, pretty much, anything you'd ever want to do. I've recommended it to all of my friends.
