When I got my new computer (800 Athlon, 128 RAM)I really needed the best graphics card for games and DVD. I found it in the 3D Prophet. Although a bit pricey, the Prophet displays awesome resolutions with some lightning fast framerates. If you are going to go with a GeForce 256 chip, the 3d Prophet is the card that delivers.
Installation:
After opening up the cardboard box and cracking my computer case open, I just popped the card in the AGP slot. I then booted up the computer and installed the drivers on my Win98 machine. After that I was ready to Rock and Roll.
(Another advantage in going with a GeForce is its support in XFree86 4.0. If you are a Linux user, this might be an advantage worth considering.)
Gameplay:
I was truly in a state of awe when I ran some of the Nvidia demos that came with the card on CD. This was nothing compared to the feeling I got when I was finally able to play Unreal Tournament and Quake III in 1024X768 32bpp. The speed and picture in this resolution and color depth was comparable to watching a DVD--flawless! On my old card and computer I was lucky to be able change frames without pauses in 640X480 16bpp.
Overall, the Guillemot 3d Prophet is definitely worth a look. If you are in to state of the art gaming with lightning fast speed and beautiful picture quality, this is the card for you!
