Pros:easy, lots of groups, free
Cons:sometimes problems with old emails on sites, sometimes site is slow
A couple of years ago, I bought a computer game called Creatures 2 (see my review). My friend introduced my to an eGroup all about creatures. Every day for the next 6 months, I recieved an average of seven emails a day, about new products for creatures, problems people were having, and answers to my questions. eGroups is undoubtedly the best email group on the web. I didn't know much about it, i just received the emails and sent the emails.
The way it works it ingenious. Every email sent to the group is sent to everyone who is a member. And every time someone replies to the email, it is sent to everyone again. It is like an ongoing chat room.
Then i learned the more technical side to it. I joined another Creatures 2 group, one devoted to making items (Cobs) that could help in the game. But i didn't receive any emails from the group. So, i went to the eGroups.com site, and tried to figure out what was wrong. What i found I didn't know existed. After i signed in with my eGroups member name, what i found was a list of every email ever sent in the group. I was able to read all the old emails.
This is where i ran into the only problem i ever found in eGroups. My group sent a lot of attachments, which was fine. But when I tried to download the old attachments, it wouldn't work. That was the only problem I ever found in eGroups, and besides that it ia a great program!
