| neysa76's Full Review: Handspring Visor Prism Handheld |
Years ago I bought one of the first PalmPilot models and it ended up gathering dust in my closet because the battery life was so poor. I decided that the next PDA I would buy would have a rechargeable battery. Having had a bad experience with Palm and knowing that the people who developed the PalmPilot had created a new company (Handspring), I decided to give them a try.
I heard Handspring was on the verge of coming out with a rechargeable battery PDA. Just so happens that this new model would also be color-enabled. I didn't really need or want the color, but I wanted the battery life, so I bit the bullet and bought it.
Personally I think the Handspring Visor Prism is fantastic. It has something like 64,000 colors and the battery is rechargeable through the HotSync cradle. I use mine every day and probably HotSync once a week. Given this, I don't think I have ever seen the battery indicator drop below fully charged. Amazing! An added bonus is the fabulous color. I compared it to the Palm color Pilot and found the Visor Prism's color is much crisper. It comes with all the standard PDA applications and it is fully compatible with Palm programs, so you can download any number of Palm applications.
The Visor Prism also comes with software to allow you to synchronize it with your address book, financial software, and email program. It was effortless to install the software and it enhanced the Prism's overall out-of-the-box experience. In addition, the Prism comes with the deluxe stylus (metal with a rubber tip), rather than the old plastic one that came with older models.
Granted the price tag of $450 is not cheap, however it is well-worth it. Honestly the only thing I would change is the cover. It pops on and off, whereas I would have preferred a flip cover. Obviously you want to use the cover to protect the screen when it's not in use, but the pop-on cover seems prone to being lost.
Overall, however, I am exceptionally pleased with my purchase and highly recommend it.
