I got the Micro Solutions Backpack cd-rewriter for Christmas, and although I asked for a Plextor (since I had heard so much good stuff about them), I am quite pleased with this burner.
This was very easy to install, all I had to do was plug it into the printer ports, and it came with the easy to use Adaptec Easy CD Creator software, which as far as I can tell most people use and is the best program. This is a nice program where you select the files you want to put to disc, and you can "test" making the CD before you actually have to burn it, because burners will mess up discs every once in awhile. It also comes with DirectCD too.
The only complaint I have is that so far I have not been able to burn 1 single disc in DAO. DAO is disc at once which means that it will leave out the 2 second gaps between tracks on audio CDs. Supposedly if your burner is incapable of burning in DAO the option will be greyed out. It is not greyed out for me but it hasn't worked yet. I have tried deleting excess files to increase drive space, defragmenting, and reinstalling Easy CD Creator. This may be a fault of my computer, my computer is getting to be pretty old now (about 4-5 years), so maybe that's where the fault lays.
This is a CD-rewriter which means that it will also burn and rewrite over CD-RWs. Note that CD-RWs are different from CD-Rs and will not play in most stereos and are more expensive than CD-RS. With this burner you can write backup files (most discs can hold 650-700 mg) or create audio discs. Not to mention that it can be used as an extra CD-ROM drive.
