I often asked myself which compression method was better, ZIP or RAR. After using both for a while I decided that RAR is much better in use. RAR has a simple system when compressing to multiple files. It gives the names .RAR, .R01, .R02 etc. With ZIP all the files are called .ZIP so you can't keep them in one directory. Also the compression itself with RAR is a little higher than with ZIP.
The two most famous programs, WinRAR and WinZip, have many differences too. The later the version of WinZip, the more extra features it got. Things as Favorites for a Zip program aren't really needed I think. WinRAR is much handier. It's small, easy to use and it has a logical interface. It offers the functions only when you need them and it gives the user the ability to quickly select several files and directories which he wants to compress.
If .RAR was the standard (which is much better I think) I only would use RAR compression in combination with WinRAR!
