Call Me Chintzy or Cheap, I like it. by peachjam | Mar 15 '00 I'm almost embarrassed to write this, partly because there has been so much negative press out there (and here at epinions) about the eMachines, and partly because I built my last computer system and who in their right mind who knew enough about...Return to opinion

Good Ol' 333cs (Reply to this comment)
by ChrisChandler
The 333cs was my first computer bargain. I
bought it in July of '99, and it worked great right out of the box. The Modem was
truly buggy, but somehow with patience it always connected.....on the 2nd or 3rd try.
The Cyrix MII was not the rave of the time, and I was told to steer cleer, but with 512kb
L2 cache, and MMX technology, the chip did its job without a hitch. The CD-ROM ran the
applications beautifully, but skipped badly
when playing music CD's.Because of the 2.1
Gb HDD, I later sold the 333cs as opposed to swapping it out. I now have a 500idx and am
very pleased with this Etower.

I bought an Emachine last year. I have very mixed feelings about it. When it is working, it is great. Once it crashed. A few months later, the modem failed. When I buy a new computer, it will not be another Emachine.

Same machine, same expierences (Reply to this comment)

Hey, I also have a 333cs, and I have had NO problems with it. I just want to back Troy up on his epinion. The comptuer is cheap, and it works well. But from the other reviews, you can't really say that too often. So, if your thinking on buying one, its taking a gamble. But I say, take that risk......

Great Review! (Reply to this comment)

I actually know REAL people who purchased this model and love it. Granted, they are not power users but simply folks who enjoy the Internet and use their systems for home based business applications. For the price, it is a throwaway and one that does not require any knowledge of upgrades or computers in general.
Bravo! You definitely tell it like it is!

Great job! (Reply to this comment)

What a thorough review Troy. I think you backed up your opinion with enough specific information that anyone considering buying an eMachine has a very good idea of what to expect.

Don't be afraid to express your opinion (which you do very well). I admire someone who writes in the face of the popular view. Your representing your own beliefs and doing a good service for this site. Keep up the good work! Brad
