IBM Blows it BIG TIME!
Jan 12 '00
Ibm's introduction of the 1400 series and it's sister units present what would appear to be a great value on the surface. But, that's where it stops. One look at the machine and it's impressive, very impressive with a lot of cool features. Though Im not sure where you are supposed to use the cd as just a cd player without turning the unit on. (It has a sight glass allowing you to run a cd without actually turning the unit on.)
Don't get me wrong- IBM makes the best books on earth in my epinion, just not this time. The screen is the worst HPA screen I have seen yet- dont even think of using for clients. Plus- they are having driver problems with it. The unit is slow w/ only 32m of ram- despite it's decent processor, and HDD access is not even close to fast. It's IBM quality for the rest of it, including the legendary keyboard.
If you are looking for a mobile typewriter, or beginner's computer, or even one for the kids in school- well, you may have found the one. If you are looking for anything more, buy an IBM, just spend more money.
