| LaFeet's Full Review: MicroSolutions Backpack 167550 |
We bought the MicroSolutions Backpack 185100 because we had a lot of traveling coming up, and we wanted something that would survive the trip.
We also wanted to be able to record our own music cd's to help keep the kids happy (something about the savage beasts).
I reviewed hundreds of reviews online and in magazines. All fingers pointed to the MicroSolutions Backpack. So I managed to convince a friend (who sleeps with several laptops instead of a teddy bear) to buy one. And he bit the hook, hard. I also had a difficult time getting him to let me use the Backpack CD-RW, he was to engrossed with it.
The backpack cd rewriter is the fastest (up to 1.2MB/s for EPP/ECP and 2.5MB/s for PC Card Type II) parallel port CD-RW drive on the market. With a typical access time 150 milliseconds and a 2MB buffer it takes no time to write, re write or read a cd.
We found that this is a superior unit, capable of making CD-RW and CD-R CDs. We have an older IBM laptop, and the MicroSolutions Backpack 185100 brought new life by providing a simple to use CD-ROM drive.
This unit is "Plug & Play" compatible. After unpacking it you are seconds away from a new cd rewriter for any PC. Just plug it into your parallel port or PC Card slot.
And this unit is light in weight at only 20 ounces. Pack it with your notebook, or carry it between home and work. Additionally it has a pass through port so you can always use your printer even when the Backpack is connected to the parallel port.
The software was extremely easy to use and installed in minutes. The software has everything you need to create your own CDs. The two-page documentation delivers a maximum five minute installation. Just plug in the parallel cord to your computer and the hard drive and you are off.
If you are constantly on the move, if you regularly transport very big files, if you share data regularly between two computers but are not set up on an intranet, this hard drive is a real time saver
The MicroSolutions Backpack 185100 is a quality unit, and the price is comparable with those of other drives that don't offer a choice of connection. It is the best choice for those users who need to create or read CD's at home, at the office, on the road.
