Beyond all shadow of a doubt, The 350 MHz model of the Power Macintosh G4, formerly 400 MHz, is for the person who needs the latest Mac, but doesn't have the $3,500+ to build his/her dream Mac.

This model was introduced after the initial release of the G4 series. This was due to a shortage of G4 Processors, and a Bug in the current G4 Processor design (version 2.6). The bug, known as "Errata" has prevented the shipping of any of the 500 MHz models of this series. Due to the situation, Apple has had to reduce the speed revisions of the G4 series, so a reasonable quantity can be shipped to market, and to allow Motorola time to correct the bug.

In any case, if you do web design, custom database work, PrePress graphics, Desktop Publishing, or you just want a machine to play the latest games, this G4 could be right up your alley. Especially if you cannot spend $2,400 in one lump sum, and you are willing to add more to the computer as time go on. Please remember that this is the entry level computer for the G4 series, and that all of the aforementioned uses typically require more RAM than what the 350 MHz G4 comes with, but it is a good start.

As "estephan500" stated in his review of the 400 MHz G4, (again this was the former entry level Power Mac), the 350 MHz G4 Processor is placed on a modified G3 logic board. And you may miss out on some of the many features of the higher end versions of the G4 series.

Yes, the 350 MHz Power Macintosh G4 is an excellent computer. In my efforts to help you, the reader, make the wisest purchase. I am forced to remind you of planned obsolescence, and that before you run to Apple’s web site, to place your order, you should take a very serious look at the options available in the 400 MHz and 450 MHz models of the G4 series. Then take one last look in your wallet, and make a decision.
