Dell Sucks

The Bottom Line Don't buy a Dell.
For the past week I have been using my Grandfather's Dell Optiplex 466/Le. Someone gave it to me a year or two ago and since I didn't have a use for it and grampa needed a better computer than his old 386, I gave this one to him. To be fair to Dell, the problems might not be their fault at all, its is more than likely Microsoft's. Since every computer Dell sells contains Microsoft software, from here on Microsoft's software and Dell's hardware will be referred to by simply "the Dell".
The Dell is running Windows 95 and does have Netscape and Internet Explorer installed on it. I opted to use IE because Netscape crashes all the time, and surprisingly IE doesn't.
OK, so I plugged a phone in to the phone output on the internal modem and I started having mouse problems: it didn't work. It turned out the weight of the telephone cord over the mouse connector caused it not to work. Wow, a light telephone cord caused this problem. The fix was easy, I moved the telephone cord out of the way.
OK so here I am writing reviews on epinions.com within IE5. I make a spelling mistake and each time I go for the backspace key to correct it I am taking a gamble at what its function will be. Half the time it does what it is supposed to, delete the character preceding the cursor and half the time it bring my back to the page I was at before, like hitting the back button. This "feature" is only supposed to do that when there is no active text field. I never had this problem on IE5 for the Mac.
The PC Concepts Mouse and Keyboard are the worst input devices I have ever used. The 'o' key doesn't respond unless you hit it hard, I have been typing '.cm' rather than '.com' to many times and I am really losing my patience. On the mouse the left button is really sensitive and with my middle finger resting on it it constantly inadvertantly clicks. I have never had this problem with any other 2 button mouse. The solution was to pull it up and it 'snapped' into sort of a lockout position, and I can snap it back down should I need the left button.
Other than those problems, it worked and it did for the most part what I needed it to do, and it was surprisingly responsive for an old 486DX2/66.
