The world of free internet is getting bigger. But sometimes bigger doenst necessarily mean better. Enter iFreedom.com. Free is better.
After trying NetZero, AltaVista, FreeInet, and anything else that comes with $0, I checked out iFreedom.com upon the epinion I read here. It turns out better than the review.
Here is what you get:
unlimited internet access
2800 cities across USA
56k V.90 dial up connect
12 mb free webspace
free POP3 email
20 mb free file storage
free newsgroup access
Just like a real ISP huh? But you don't have to pay the fees. All you have to do is run their software and click on a banner ad that pops up every 20 minutes. When you click on it you to to the site, but can close it to give you another 20 minutes of surfing. A small price to pay no doubt.
IFreedom doesn't monitor your web surfing, only the banner ads you click. And as usual all personal information is confidential. What you need to get going on iFreedom:
a PC-compatible computer (486, Pentium, or higher)
- a 28,800-baud modem or faster
- Microsoft Windows 95® or Windows 98
- at least 32 megabytes of RAM
- at least 20 megabytes free on your hard drive
- a mouse
- an SVGA monitor
What you cant do with iFreedom is give yourself a unique Login ID# (its assigned). You also cant use Outlook for your newsgroups. And you don't get great tech support (online only at this time). Mac users also will have to wait until sometime in 2000 to use iFreedom. Also at this time, access numbers are limited to a few states and even then only some cities are present. iFreedom assures us that they will be adding more numbers by the end of the year as early as Novermber 15.
By far the best experience of surfing for free has been iFreedom. Connections are as claimed, and the annoying banner isn't always present like in others. So drop the other freebies, and give iFreedom a chance (provided it has an access number in your area). It will win you over.
