As far as face value goes, The Guillemot 3D Prophet is a great card, due to the fact that it is powered by the GeForce 256 graphics chip. But face value is all you can throw at it originally without adding in slightly harder facts.
Now, I say this is a great card, with some reserve. It is more expensive than the Creative Labs Annihilator, slightly slower, but definitely has more features. In addition to the base GeForce 256 chip, and great drivers, this card includes a TV out socket, and also includes the ability to overclock the card from it's base 120mhz Core Speed/166mhz Memory Speed to 150/200. This feature isn't foolproof though, following in the steps of the overclocking rage. Usually you can count on one out of two Prophets overclocking properly, although even this is nothing to count on.
Overall, if you could find this card at a comparable price to the Annihilator, or if you are willing to pay $40 extra retail for TV-out, and overclocking, then this is the card for you. Both the Annihilator and the Prophet are comparable, both are incredible cards, but only the prophet has those extra features some people might want. But do you need to run out and buy a Prophet, or any other GeForce card? Probably not, if you are already running a TNT2, Voodoo 3, or comparable card, although, anything lower, and you will see a huge difference in game performance, on any computer.
I just wanted to add something to this review, I went out and bought a Prophet DDR board, and the performance is through the roof. TV-Out works like it's supposed to, and the card runs hot but has it's own cooling fan so that takes care of the heat. I haven't tried overclocking yet, because this runs everything I need to run at the top settings without any slowdown. Unreal Tournament, Perfect. The Sims, Perfect on any game speed. All the EA Sports titles, Perfect. Quake 3, again, Perfect. So far I haven't found a game that will make it slow down. Works fine for me, because it has to perform at the price of $280. (Dropping almost everyday.. Check eBay for the best prices)
