The Altec Lansing ACS33 speakers are a good choice when it comes to Computer Audio.
I have spent a good amount of time working with Altec Lansing speakers, and I have never been disappointed by their performance. They always deliver quality audio and, more often than not, at a great price.
My Altec Lansing ACS33’s are fed by a Sound Blaster Live! sound card, and the sound is more than phenomenal! It definitely delivers the sound I am looking for.
The satellite speakers don’t get distorted at higher volumes like some cheaper speaker systems. They just give nice clean sound as promised.
The subwoofer definitely complements the satellite speakers. It delivers solid, clean bass when required. Some subwoofers have a tendency to give a “hollow” bass that just doesn’t sound right. This sub does a good job of avoiding that pitfall.
Another nice feature of the system is the fact that the power supply for the system is built into the subwoofer housing. That means it can plug into a standard 2 prong outlet and effectively avoid the big block transformer syndrome (Big Block transformers tend to cover 1 or more plugs). This is very nice, especially for those of us who need every available outlet!
One downfall of the speaker system is related to the way the speakers connect to the subwoofer unit. Unfortunately both satellite speakers are merged into the same cable when plugged into the subwoofer unit. This means the 2 satellite speakers are effectively 1 unit. This limits your ability to position the speakers due to the fact that they are tethered together. This is something that has always bothered me with Computer Speaker systems (of course, its not really a problem per say, maybe just a pet peeve).
Other than that minor detail, I would suggest these speakers as a very good system. I use these speakers mostly while gaming online. I live and die (virtually) by my Altec Lansing ACS33 speakers!
