| nquinn's Full Review: Creative Labs Sound Blaster Live! Value Sound Card |
For the money, you cannot find a better sound card. The sound quality is clean and crisp. Even when hooked up to a home stereo, the quality
sounds nearly 2x as good as other sound cards. Creative has long been
known for their use in games, and they certainly keep up to par with it
now. (read on...)
I chose this card after talking to several different sources. Every
person I talked to, without any hesitation, told me to get this card.
It is simply the best $45 sound card I've ever purchased.
First, the sound reproduction is excellent. Hooked up to a home stereo,
bass is booming, and the highs are clear. The signal to noise
ratio is in the mid-90's... which is on par with most consumer
home equipment.
The card supports 4 channel surround sound, and also supports EAX.
This means that for all of those games you play, you can really take
advantage now. I didn't realized how much I was missing out on until
I got this card. All of a sudden there are like 10 more channels of
sounds in my games, such as birds chirping in the background, tire
screeches, and more. I'll never forget the first time I heard a grenade
roll behind me in rogue spear... I just about jumped!
The software package that comes with the card is sufficient for your
needs. HOWEVER, MAKE SURE TO DOWNLOAD THE NEW LIVEWARE SOFTWARE.
This software (3.0) supports the newer games with much better EAX
support. It also includes several new soundfonts that can be used
in mixing programs.
Don't bother with another sound card. This little $45 beauty will
do everything you need and more.
