Just bought a second Sony VaioApr 11 '00 Write an essay on this topic.I am in my third year of ownership of a Sony Vaio multimedia studio computer. My first a PCV-150 has been excellent with no problems what so ever. I love the features it came with such as video editing, built in zip, front accessed AV Jacks and lots of killer software, TV inputs and outputs, answering machine, video conferencing...much more... I have been so happy that since I now own a Sony Digital Camera and Camcorder both of which I adore I would be the latest most expensive consumer desktop available. Much to my dismay most of the retailers in my area that previously carried Sony computers was no longer carrying them. I eventually found my computer at Fry's Electronics. I wanted it because I knew it had the new firewire built in, the new standard for digital AV editing. I got it home, unwrapped it. I was first disappointed in the case. The tower is smaller, holds less, board has less slots on it. Now would someone who does video editing and just spent $2000 on a desktop want less than he had with a three year old machine. Sony was no longer providing AV inputs on the front back or at all. Sony no longer provides the video editing software in full editions. Sony no longer provides the studio software. No more AV software There is no TV in or out. The speakers sucked. Now with Windows 98 crashed several times brand new out of the box. Software sucked. No answering machine, no video conferencing. My older machine although only had a 233 mhz is much faster than the newer 550 mhz. I out of total disgust, took my new baby back bought a new hard drive and a firewire card and am modifying my older Sony. Why did they do this? Pro: Firewire technology is cool, nice to have factory CDW/CDR Con: Sony really has cheaped out. |
