Crashes before use.

Written: Feb 25 '00 (Updated Feb 26 '00)
Pros:Has potential of being great
Cons:CRASHES, FREEZES, DENIES MEMBERS ACCESS

I've been signed up with Phonefree.com for about two or three months now, and I haven't been able to make an actual call to date. There is no way of me doing it, because once I log in, if it lets me, it crashes.

Now I believe I feel the same way as most people when I say, I absolutely hate it when my computer crashes. Therefore, I hate Phonefree. This may be a bit of a biased opinion, I haven't actually used the program, but I have good reason to. Like I said before I have not been able to even access the program without it freezing, crashing or just plain denying my even existence in the program, it says I am not even a member.

Now I am not one to put down a good idea, such as Internet telephony, so I will also add that this program has the potential to be a great asset in our everyday lives. There is nothing more ingenious and helpful than free long distance, especially to the person who calls family all over the country. Allow me to give a little proof.

Say you call your aunt, in New York, you live in California, well nowadays in the peak of the day, and you may be running a bill of over twenty cents per minute. Let’s say you average a 60-minute call, 4 times a month.
Well, 60*.20 cents per minute = $12, * 4 times a month = $48 a month.

So basically this program has the potential of saving you some of your hard-earned cash.

But now you may be wondering, "What if Old Auntie doesn't have a computer?"
No problem. You can still dial her number on the pad, and it will still be free. (Correction, as of February you have to pay a base rate of $15 a month to get pc to phone calling.) This is accomplished by the use of ........banner ads. What else?
So as I said before, Phonefree.com has the potential of being a great program. As of now though, it has its flaws. There are some other programs running now that are working and are great. One of which is Dialpad.com. If you would like to hear about Dialpad.com, go read my opinion on my page. Thanks.
