Will it be a problem?
Written: Dec 20 '99
Pros:Good resolution, Nice options available, Fast printing.
Cons:High maintenance printer
The company I work for has about 6 HP LJ 8000 printers, and I’m the one who is responsible for troubleshooting them if anything goes wrong. As for as printing goes, the printer prints very well. It is fast, and if you need a report in a hurry it will get the job done. But with this, like with everything else, there is a price.
1) This is a High maintenance printer. Paper jams occur at least once per week. One of the things you should do if you get this printer, is to let the user know exactly where the paper jams occur, this way you will minimize the time you spend troubleshooting problems that could have been avoided.
2) If you are getting excessive paper jams, it is possible that the pickup rollers on the printer have worn out, and need to be replaced.
3) Sometimes you will see Service error on the printer, which appear for no reason what so ever, but a shutdown, and a power cycle will usually fix that.
4) The most serious error I got whit this printer, was that the fuser “became” defective after the printer has been in operation for about 3 months. I turns out that HP knew about the problem, and gladly replaced the fuser, but my question is why they didn’t notify us of the problem before it occurred?
My final review is that this is a good printer for office environment, if you need something fast, and reliable, get it. But be prepared to learn the printer inside out, and troubleshoot problems that come up.
