I ordered a Dell 4100 system to replace my 5 year old Packard Bell 133 which ran like a 600 pound guy in a marathon.
When I finally decided to buy I went for a Dell mainly for their customer satisfaction which is tops. Went to their web site and I find that with a 933MHZ or higher they're offering a free DVD upgrade, free CD-RW drive in the 2nd bay and a free scanner. WOW!
After configuring the system online I then contacted a 'real' person at Dell to finalize everything. They ended up throwing in the 3yr on-site maint for free also($99 value). The day after I placed my order they came out with Free shipping. I called Dell and they gave me that too. The customer service rep then also told me to call back after 30 days to see if the system price dropped. If so I would get a refund of the difference. Well I did that and got $180 credit on my charge card the next day!
The machine itself was a snap to put together and has worked flawlessly.
Only problems (minor) :
1) If you have been using AOL 5.0 and shut the computer down it will hang. Just reboot and then shut it down again without using AOL
It's not a Dell problem but an AOL/Windows ME issue.
If you don't user AOL there is no issue.
2) some of the scanner software would not install properly. I don't need it anyway.
Just think- I've gone 2 months without my kids screaming; "We need a new computer!!". Ahh.. peace and quiet at last
