| yeldarb's Full Review: Web America Networks |
I've been with Web America Networks for about four months now. I've heard from different people about how great the service is or how bad the service is. I for one have no problems connecting or doing email. For $9.95 one can't really complain.
There are some issues though as how much information you need to easily connect to the internet. Theoretically, one should be able to install the intelligent dialer and connect on the first time, but some users end up having to call technical support to configure their network components or the WANS connectoid depending on if they have a software or hardware modem.
Usually the reason people can't connect is not because of the service but because of their configurations. For example, if a customer has a certain type of modem such as an LT Win modem, it sometimes has a problem communicating with another modem if it doesn't have the v90 upgrade. Usually an initialization string will allow it to connect at 28.8 speed but how many customers would know how to do this?
Of course that's why they have a technical support department. But there are some things that WANS doesn't tell it's customers. The dialer software requires that the version of dial up networking that you have be 1.3. If you have an older version of Windows such as Windows 95a, more than likely you have dial up networking 1.2 and you can forget about connecting through the dialer.
For the most part, a lot of the problems a customer may have can usually be resolved by just reading the company's AUP. But we all know we don't before we sign up for anything. So can we really blame WANS for getting disconnected after 2.5 hours because we didn't know it was stated in the AUP? No, we just have to learn to read the agreement next time. But how much can we expect for $9.95? To get connected, to be able to email, and to get tech support when I need it is all I would expect.
