| BlackBear's Full Review: Creative Labs Sound Blaster PCI |
I recently installed the Creative Labs Sound Blaster PCI 512 stereo sound card into my PC last week. It replaced my Sound Blaster Pro 16-bit, and the differences were very obvious.
The sound is TRUE stereo and the card has output jacks so that it can be rigged up for surround sound as well. It also has a direct mic jack and a jack that will send the sound to an entertainment center if you like.
Another really cool bonus is that the joystick port is right there on the card, where it should have always been. I'm not certain when that adjustment to the hardware was made, but I used to have a partial card card in order to use my joystick.
The drivers work really smoothly with my software, and there is even a really cool CD Player software package that will catalog your music CDs and remember the titles, tracks, etc. I haven't really had much time to play with this package, but I will be sure to post details in a future review once I have.
The card has on board RAM that really smoothes out the speed of the software that is being run. Most likely, this would be overlooked by the average user, but my old sound card was almost 10 years old so the difference is noticeable to me.
This is a great card. As always, Creative Labs has produced a superior product and it is for this reason that I always return to this company when it is time to upgrade my system.
