I know this is listed under the Creative Labs Blaster DVD-ROM 6X, the 8x is new and there was no listing.
Wow! What a great DVD player. The player was easy to install because I took out my old CD-ROM drive and replaced it with the 8x DVD player. I used they same hook ups as the old CD-ROM player, but I had to install the Dxr3 Decoder Card into the computer and then plug it into my video card. It is a little pricey with the Decoder Card at $249.99 and you might find it cheaper without the card. DVD players without a decoder card need software from your video card to run and it will take away from your processor performance.
Dxr™3 Decoder
This is a true Dolby® Digital (AC-3®) 5.1-channel audio or DTS™ 6-channel audio. You can connect it directly to your Sound Blaster Sound card, but to get the best sound you need to hook it up to a 5.1 Digital Receiver. From your receiver you will run 5 speakers and 1 sub woofer. A right, center and left speaker in front of you and in the rear a right and left speaker. If you have a good sub woofer you can hide it anywhere.
The Creative Dxr3 decoder brings professional-quality MPEG-2 decoding that matches and even outperforms other more expensive systems. You can experience high-definition, digitally enhanced MPEG video on your PC or TV using the Creative® Dxr3 decoder board.
