| dutchman28's Full Review: Tyan Tsunami AT S1830S |
I own two of the 1830S motherboards. The fist was purchased when I had a spare PII processor setting in my surplus equipment box. I also had an full tower case with a decent hard drive which had a cheap 486 motherboard that had been nothing but trouble. The combination worked out great. I ended up stealing some ram from my other PII and purchased a few components to finish up the system. Recently I upgraded the processor to a PIII-850e and the system really screams. I had another tower case and enough parts sitting around that I decided to purchase a second motherboard,
In summary if you have a good AT style case, some decent components, perhaps more ISA legacy cards than most new ATX form factor motherboards will support this is a great mother board. Tyan continues to release BIOS updates. I have overclocked the PII-350 to 467 with no problems.
While I would recommend someone assembling a system from scratch go with a new ATX form case and motherboard don't rule this one out if you are trying to maximize your current parts.
My PIII is dual booting 98 and 2000. The PII will be running 95, 98, and Linux.
