| kriple8's Full Review: Sony VAIO PCG-340 |
The 340 makes a pretty good Linux machine out of the box.
With it's 4 to 2 prepartitioned 6GB harddrive, you don't even need
to use extra tools to shrink the c:\-partition (or do id the hard way and
reinstall windows): the 2GB are very well suited for a Linux file system.
With 6.1 redhat, which boots and installs from CD, I had no problems
with any piece of hardware. I inserted a 3com Etherlink and an Adaptec
SlimSCSI card, and both just started to do their jobs.
The HPA-Display comes very close to TFT at low cost.
X-Windows has native support for the NeoMagig graphics chip
with reasonable performance. Both Touchpad and external (PS/2-)
mouse are supported at the same time.
There is a problem with USB, but that is not Sony's fault.
