900MX: Micron monitor? NO, but buy!

Dec 11 '00 (Updated Dec 15 '00)

After numerous e-mails to Micron to get specs about the Micron 900MX monitor sold at Best Buy (getting several replies including the specs' webpage)...and buying it, THEN Micron tells me it's NOT a Micron...that it's a Proview...then I call Proview and find out it's NOT a Proview...
It's a CTX...likely a PR960F, kinda...is this any way to run an industry?

Well...let's see...the 900MX has a Sony FD Trinitron with a 0.24mm Pitch Aperture Grille (center, .25mm at the edges)sooooooooo....so it's got Sony's sharpness and color (and, yes, those two wires across the screen...no problem for me...if you want a Sony you get them, like 'em or not). You also get VERY high flicker-free refresh rates associated with this Sony tube...85+ at the most used resolutions....still...it's not a quite a Sony...and it's not a Micron...

BUT it's not quite a CTX PR960F either...the CTX has a USB Hub and the Micron doesn't....so what did I get? A CTX look-alike that's gotten some great reviews, and some not-so-hot reviews...

After a few days of adjustments my first response is...FANTASTIC!
...IT'S NOT BIG ENOUGH!!! The flat tube is so neutral that it doesn't seem as big as it is and being so neutral you really feel that you could go even bigger...like 21", if it weren't for the fact that the jump to 21 is REALLLY quite a $$$ leap...so I'm livin' in a 19" paradise!

My recommendations...If you can get a deal on this at Best Buy, go for it...but look at the CTX too (and other similar Sony FD tubes in other brands...but get an extended service contract ($50 at BB) or get an extended warranty through your credit card company...shipping a 55lb box is like $60, so it's worth it...The Micron warranty is 1 year, the CTX warranty is 3 years...but at this point I don't know who's going to accept responsibility...

Do your research because they don't.
Is this any way to run an industry?

AS POSTED ELSEWHERE (19" monitor update): I have been in contact with CTX and they know about the Micron monitor situation...
A techie suggested NOT to make any adjustments to the items in "Property", however if you go to the ZDNET site to test monitors
(http://www.zdnet.com/pcmag/stories/reviews/0,6755,2344864,00.html)
you can improve the moire there using the resolution screen shot...and
as for color purity, they could tell me HOW to adjust it (+ or -) but not what I should be adjusting it TO! Recommendation? Leave well enuf alone.
