Gateway proves themselves, the hard way...
Written: Sep 07 '00
Pros:good machine, great service
Cons:well, everyone company makes some lemon machines
I bought a Gateway laptop a little over a year ago. I was leaving for college, and I wanted a powerful machine that would last me for four years. So I spent a fortune on a the top of the line machine at the time. So you can imagine how upset I was when I arrived at school and shortly thereafter my computer completely crashed. I mean, I couldn't reboot the thing, let alone backup my files. I called the service department, and they worked with me to figure out what the problem was, and finally the man that I was talking to decided that he would send me a new hard drive. Now while I wasn't thrilled with losing all of my information, I was pleased that I didn't have to kick and scream to get a new hard drive.
Unfortunately, my story doesn't end there. This same thing happened twice more, until the fourth time it happened I very politely pointed out that maybe there was something else wrong with my machine. So I was put in contact with a laptop service supervisor. He gave me his name, and his number, so I no longer had to go through the 1800 number. The problem at this point was that it was about 10 months after I bought the machine originally and that model was no longer being made. So, after talking to some people, they just upgraded my machine to the nearest thing being made last April, and completely replaced my machine.
Now, finally there is a happy ending to my story. I have now had my machine for 5 months, and I am happy as can be. The moral: Gateway does make great machines, but even more importantly, they provide AWESOME customer service!!!!!
