| Feydrith's Full Review: Creative Labs PC-DVD ROM kit |
I recently upgraded from my older Creative Labs PC-DVD Encore 5x kit to the newer Encore 6x and boy was I impressed with the improvements. This drive definitely out performs the older 5x kit. The images on my monitor are crisper and clearer then they were with the Dxr2 decoder board. The Dxr3 decoder board was also slightly redesigned so that the cables for the monitor are more easily attached... and they added another jack for output.
The drive itself seems to run faster (it is supposed to be equivalent to a 24x Cd rom and a 6x DVD) and with less problems then my original one did. I have a CD-R drive that I often use to make back-ups with and there have been less buffer under-runs between the two drives now then I have experienced in the past.
Coupled with my Cambridge Soundworks PC home theatre system, this PC-DVD kit has been very impressive. The added ability to output to your TV is always nice (and the image on TV is so sharp and clear). The true beauty of all of this was that I only paid $142 for mine from buy.com (It was $152 at the time and I had a $10 coupon). I added a remote to my system for under $50 (it would have been nice if one was included) and now I can just sit back and watch a movie just like I would on a VCR.
