| MediaLabGuy's Full Review: Imation CD-RW Internal Drive 4X4X20 |
Imation's Super Recorder offers a 20x read speed and a 4x record and 4x rewrite speed for CD-Rs and CD-RWs respectively--not particularly fast compared to today's 8x and 12x recorders. If speed isn't an issue for you, this is THE recorder to buy.
I brought and returned 2 other CD-R recorders--the Acer 4x2x32 and the HP SureStore CD0Writer 6020 before I settled on this one. The first was incompatible with my system (it would often fail) and the latter was simply just too slow. Both drivers were inexpensive--my primary factor at the time, but both were not suitable for my needs. I then stumbled onto this drive when it was onsale at Best Buy for $120.
Installation was seemless and easy. I just snapped the drive in, installed the included software on my computer, and recorded my first CD within 15 minutes. I've had this drive since September 1999, and in using it for 7 months, I've never burned a bad CD from it. The 2MB buffer that the drive has is sufficient, and with that, I give this drive 2 thumbs up and my hearty recommendation.
