| lord_batlin's Full Review: Toshiba Portege 7020 |
I work in an IS department for a company with frequently traveling executives, and the portege series has been something of a god-send to us. No longer do they complain about weight or size like they did with other laptops. No more not being able to read attachments and the tiny screen they had with windows CE machines. The portege series solved virtually all their problems in one model.
As for drawbacks, I wish it did have more on board ports. If you wish to plug in any accessories you must connect either the port bar (included) or the docking station (extra). In order to get a cd-rom at all you must buy one as an accessory. (probably the worst part). And finally, the on-board modem jack takes a little getting used to. You don't plug the cord into the laptop any more, but somewhat at an angle. Once I got used to it though, it wasn't a problem.
I've always like Toshibas because of how sturdy they are. I've dropped these units off my desk with nothing bad happening, which is a lot more than I can say for the Sony's. (I saw a guy drop one from his hand in the store and the screen just flew right off) Over all, if you can afford it, this is a great laptop that won't slow you down and is powerful enough to last for years to come.
