| killerc4's Full Review: Gateway Performance 600 |
I Bought this computer for one reason, gaming. I'm an addicted video gamer and what better to run video games than a decked out top of the line gateway? First off, it's not like I knew to buy this computer from the start in fact I had no clue what kind of computer I wanted, so I did some serious browsing through almost every computer store I could find. First off, I had a hard time finding a computer with a good graphics card, sound card and lots of RAM, I almost always had to add custom parts or RAM to the other computers to get them where I wanted which would have ended up costing me $4,000. I even went to COMP USA looking for a cheaper price and as I watched the guy total in the best parts they had, which were also inferior to the Gateway's quality, into one custom built machine I saw the price hit the $3,500 mark. Finally I walked into Gateway took a look around and to my surprise I saw a computer which had all the components I had been looking for without too much customization required. This computer is a monster with a Pentium 3 running at 600 MHz, with 128 Megs of RAM to back it up you can't go wrong. Also take into account what you will be using this computer for, business? No problem, 600 MHz will run any business program faster than you've ever seen, also the 128 megs of RAM allow you to run as many programs simultaneously so you can switch between or download something while you work. In my situation, I like to sit down with my Word processor, Internet provider, Internet explorer, and my TV program on all at once to switch between them as I please. Have kids? or are you one at heart and love those video games to death? No problem, this bad boy comes with a Nvidia TnT2 card with 64 Megs of video memory. What's this you ask? Expect to be running games at the highest resolution setting possible, smoothly without any slowdown at all. Want more than the package has? No problem, add custom parts to beef up your Gateway to any standard. For instance, I added a TV/Fm tuner, and a CD-RW drive onto mine. Gateway offers a huge amount off possible add-ons ranging from more RAM to network cards. Not sure how much it will cost with the added hardware? Go to Gateway.com, select the series you wish to purchase, add away and press submit to be answered with the exact price of your dream computer. So good quality, with the price to match makes this a 5 star computer.
