ABSOLUTELY GREAT

Mar 17 '00

To all of you torn between your next notebook purchase, I am here to give you "my" insight to this wonderful machine I own. The inspiron 7500 is the first computer of "it's" class that I have had the "pleasure" of owning.... I would recommend that you reformat your hard-drive before you load all your goodies on it. I ran into a problem after loading alot of my programs but it could have very well been a fault of my own. All I know is that once I reformatted that I've reloaded my programs and its ran flawlessly. I've also heard from technicians that "they" prefer to reformat their new units upon receiving them also.

I've gotten around $3,200 wrapped up in this heavy little laptop, but weight is not an issue to me. I bought it for its desktop performance and portability, not it's "comfort" as it sits on my lap while I'm away from home. I've gotten 256 Megabyte of RAM installed, a P-III 500 processor, 6X-DVD/LS-120 super-disk combo drive, a lovely 15" XGA screen, and a 12 gigabyte hard-drive for storage. I recommend the LS120 combo drive although Dell has informed me that it is not popular at all. The drive works with a regular 3.5" floppy AND with the Imation 120 Megabyte disks which are super for backing up anything you wish to. I'm am more impressed with this computer than I could accurately describe to you.

Watching DVD movies is a wonder. The audio is absolutely great with my 3 piece Labtec desktop speakers. The audio without any external hook-up is "decent" which is not "loud" but the quality is very acceptable. Even with the 64 Megabyte of RAM installed, the movies play fine on this unit. I've also got an external 17" monitor plugged in, as well as and external mouse, and keyboard. Together, they make this laptop an complete desktop replacement indeed. The infrared port spits out my printing needs to the Cannon BJC-80 portable printer just fine. One more recommendation for a carrying case is the Targus Backpack bought through Dell also. The protection I find for the computer is superb for the $69 dollar price. Bottom line, I am more than impressed with the quality and craftsmanship I've received with this Dell. I really have to give it to Dell for a powerful, solid, portable masterpiece in the 7500...
