| BlueFox2000's Full Review: Altec Lansing ACS 33 Computer Speakers |
I love these things! I was given an E-Monster 600 for a graduation gift, and I was close to crying when I saw the speakers that came with it. They weighed about two ounces and started vibrating something horrible when the volume was more than halfway up.
So, it was time to get some new speakers. As a soon to be college student, I couldn't afford much, but I knew basically what I wanted. But I saw these babies, from a company as reliable as Altec-Lansing, for only 40 bucks! WooHoo! I brought the set home and was blown away by it the second I started up Abba's greatest hits. Oh, did I say Abba? I meant Korn. Yeah....
It's a normal three speaker set up, with two sattelites and one subwoofer. The satellites take care of most of the sound, with the subwoofer only doing the very low frequency sounds (bass). The speakers are 10 watts, and the subwoofer is 15. That means they are PLENTY powerful for Mp3's, Games, audio CD's, what have you. They get loud enough to shake the table my computer is on pretty good, and at the highest volumes will most certainly get you arrested for disturbing the peace. I'm not a techno wiz, but I know that 10 and 15 watts equal a pretty powerful machine. There's plenty of bass, the treble is crisp and clear, but the midrange is a little muted. But, very few people will be distracted by that. Especially when they remember that these things only cost 50 bones! And I got mine for 40 at Best Buy! You can't beat that price for what you get. Yes, there's better systems out there, but NOT for 50 bucks, and these are better than a lot of 80-100$ sets. I can't reccommend these enough!
