"Nice people in town...Weather is nice...just be careful where you tread or you'll end up dead" (a postcard I would send from the town of Tristram).
A friend of mine lent me his copy of Diablo and I liked it so much he almost didn't get it back. So when I returned it to him, I went out to buy it for myself. The ease of controls was a big perk for me. Shoot-and-pray-to-kill is more my speed than trying to master all different keys to do one thing. It is a simple game though there is some strategy to it because if you don't tread carefully, you'd be dead in the first 3 minutes.
You choose a character from 3 different classes - a rogue, a warrior or a sorcerer. Each has their specialties and weaknesses.
I enjoy this game as multi-player more than a single player, though the single player has quests which can be just as entertaining. In multi-player games, every game is unique with different monsters and the lay-out of the maps are different. You can choose from different difficulty settings, which is fun as you move up in the world of Tristram.
The one thing I do have against the multi-player game are the cheats and hacks that run rampant on battle.net (one of the places you can play Diablo/StarCraft/BroodWars for free). Blizzard has tried to eliminate them but they just seem to flourish. Why anyone would cheat and hack in a game like this is beyond me. Another problem with multi-player games on battle.net is that BNET is continuously having server problems, (lag, splits to name two) which has come more and more apparent with every game they release (they have just released WarCraft - Battle.net Edition..soon to be followed *hopefully* with the one of the most anticipated sequel - Diablo II).
I would recommend this game to my friends but with two warnings:
1) If you are to game on battle.net, game with who you know and trust. Player killers (most are cheaters and hacked up the wahoo) run rampant on there.
and 2) Don't forget you do have a life outside of the land of Tristram. It can be very addictive.
HAPPY HUNTING!
P.S. If you do go on to battle.net..remember this /squelch <username> or /ignore <username>. It makes your stay a little more enjoyable in channels while waiting for a game to get started.
