I've been working with different companies on internet and network design, architecture, and support for about ten years now. During that time, I've found that there are two companies that you'll always regret having to deal with. The first is US West, now Qwest. To borrow from Obi-Wan Kenobi, "You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy."
Unless you have to work with Network Solutions to try and change the registry for a domain name, that is...
When attempting to register a domain, you will probably not encounter any problems. Apparently, Network Solutions functions along the same lines as an "ant lion" or "doodlebug," or even the carnivorous "pitcher plant."
It's easy to get in. After they've charged your credit card, they no longer care what happens to your account.
On several occasions, I've had to work with Network Solutions to change the DNS or IP information for domains. As long as you have access to your original e-mail address, this isn't much trouble. If you're offline, you're in *real* trouble.
In one case, we had to move from one ISP to another in a hurry because the first ISP was offline. As a result, the "confirmation" e-mail sent from Network Solutions never arrived (the ISP was offline, remember?) and the domain change didn't occur.
Three days, seven phone calls, and four 2-page faxes (long distance, too!) later, that company's lawyer convinced Network Solutions that they needed to get things put back together.
One of the biggest problems that I've seen with Network Solutions is that their droids...er, ah, salespeople and tech support staff... are incapable of independant thought. If the problem that you're having doesn't appear on one of their scripts, you're going to be frustrated beyond belief in your attempts to make things work.
Planning on registering a domain name? AVOID Network Solutions. Run Away. Now that they're no longer the only game in town (ain't competition wonderful?) they're going to learn a painful lesson in customer service, or they're going to go under.
