Originally I was with AOL - which was the pits - multiple efforts to connect, involuntarily being booted off, etc. Plus it was galling to pay $2 more for inferior service & I didn't like the fact that they were a 'non-standard' ISP which meant that anyone could have bigtime problems changing ISPs.
I went to MindSpring (MindSpring has a special method for handling AOL transferees) & it was an improvement but still some problems in connecting. Decided to try a local provider but had some basic incompatibility problems & returned to MindSpring.
MindSpring appears to have changed in my absence of only about 3 weeks. Can't be my imagination. I connect on the first try every time! I seldom get disconnected - almost never. I think the local server was somewhat faster on surfing - fewer people no doubt - and $3 less per mon. which certainly is a factor in the choice of any ISP. But I have to say that I'm glad to be back with MindSpring.
When with them before, I REALLY liked their personal, no-charge 800 help-line. The 'big guys' - of which MindSpring is now one - have got to pay more attention to their subscribers' desires (the arrogance of AOL is unbelievable) - and in this age of competition & cheapening technology - prices must come down... but I rate MindSpring very highly.
