| djsplendid's Full Review: Altec Lansing ACS 33 Computer Speakers |
About a year ago, my lovely kitten Olivia, in her attempt at amusing herself, ate through my speaker wires. Granted they were little speakers that didn't offer much in the way of sound but they were better then surfing mutely.
I'm a procrastinator. If I *needed* sound I just plugged in some headphones. I wasn't too into the whole MP3 thing at the time so I never used my computer for music or sound related activities. Since I also have a relatively old computer that I'm in the process of upgrading (slowly but surely) I also don't do much in the way of gaming. So sound wasn't really necessary for me.
I finally decided enough was enough, I was going to get speakers. I wanted a 3 piece system that was loud and cheap (in price not quality) I went to several stores and did listened to a few pair of speakers. I finally found what I was looking for in Altec Lansing's ACS33 model speaker. The sub packs 15 watts of power, it's not deafining but it carries enough bass to keep most people happy.
I'm sure if I had a better sound card I'd be a lot happier with the bass quality. The power cubes are among the loudest and cleanest sounding speakers I checked out. I could turn these babies almost all the way up and they don't distort at all. The 2 smaller speakers push a lot of bass too filling out the sound very well.
Technical Information:
Drivers (per satellite): One 3" Full range driver
Driver (Subwoofer): One 4" Long Throw
Frequency Response: 70Hz - 18kHz
Satellite Power: 10 Watts
Subwoofer Power: 15 Watts
Input Impedance: >10k ohms
Signal/Noise ratio: >65dB
Best of all, with the ten dollar Instant rebate in store coupon I got with these speakers, I paid only 40 dollars. A SWEET deal for an excellent pair of speakers. I'd recommend these for anyone who is into music and or gaming with their computers. I'd also recommend that you have a good quality sound card to drive these speakers with authority.
