| readnbead's Full Review: ABS All-In-Wonder System 2 |
After reading the other reviews on ABS, I just had to jump in. When I purchased my ABS system, about 18 months ago (I know...ancient times for a computer!) I was shopping for price, trying to steer clear of vendors that NO ONE had ever heard of. I ended up with ABS, who's price came in at at least $300 lower than any other vendor for the same system. After a series of very frustrating mishaps, I've finally got a fairly reliable desktop.
In the first place, I specifically ordered the computer to be configured so that I could connect my digital camera to the computer's serial port. When the computer was received, I found that "surprise" the serial port was disabled in the bios. Well, no big deal...except that after performing the changes, guided by tech support, somehow themotherboard "fried out". The most frustrating part of this was that I had SPECIFICALLY asked that the port be configured correctly! The whole unit needed to be returned, as I did not want to swap the motherboard for a new one. Well, believe it or not, when I received the new computer 2 weeks later, it STILL was not correct! I should mention that I sometimes made 4 or 5 phone calls before someone would return a call about this.
Next, within the first year a memory module needed replacement. Now, to be fair, this was handled in a very fast manner. I would caution those who do not feel comfortable with the workings of a computer to shy away from ABS, because they are lacking in tech support after the sale. If you have a pretty moderate degree of comfort, and replacing memory doesn't faze you, then it may be worth the $200-$300 dollars you can probably save. Use caution, but may be worth considering. I will be shopping for a DELL for my next machine!
