Virtual PC is the unique piece of software that Connectix has. It allows any Macintosh user to run virtually any PC application on their Mac. Yes it does, but probably not the way you want it to. First of all. You have to understand that anything done in software will never equal the same thing done in hardware. Virtual PC is software. With a G3, you will be satisfied with how windows runs and how the small non CPU intensive applications run. I suggest running Windows 95 OSR1 for the best performance; of course, that compromises the compatibility and other OS issues with newer software. OSR2 and Win 98 will slow Virtual PC to a halt.
I like Virtual PC, but don't try to play any 3d games on it. You'll not be happy. Even if you have a vodoo2 card. Maybe when the MAC hit 1 Ghz you can be happy trying that but till then don't. This application allows you to have compatibility with PC's; it doesn't make your Mac a PC. Although I don't see why you would ever want your Mac to be a PC.
Virtual PC uses a lot of Ram to run decent and it will cost you the hard drive space too. I manage to get a win95 OSR1 system running on 150 Megs of space, Trust me I tried very hard.
The only thing that you would have to use VPC for is file compatibility. Most of the software that anyone regular person would use for the PC is available for the Mac (with a few minor exceptions).
Again, Don't hope for too much.
