They did it. They put both a CD and floppy in the 5000. I have been waiting for this. Too many people have complained too many times about the cable and the rebooting to swap drives. Thank you, Dell.
The 15" screen is quite a surprise to those in the office used to a 14" or smaller LCD. And bright enough to satisfy my prima donna users in those well lit offices. The viewable area is nearly as big as my 17" monitor.
Windows 2000 shipped with my latest purchase. I found it surprising that NT is no longer an option, but that's probably M$ rather than Dell.
Support at Dell has taken a turn for the worst. My previous support person took another position within Dell. Her support was phenomenal, and maybe I got spoiled, but the new replacements don't go the extra mile any more. They don't seem to know where exactly to send me for special assistance, and I end up bouncing around from phone to phone.
I have been a staunch Dell buyer for over a year, total purchases in excess of 40 units, both desktop and laptop. I have seen positive changes in both divisions, and the Inspiron 5000 does them credit.
