I used this motherboard to build my own PC and I must say it has been flawless. It was the first PC I had put together, so I was looking for a board that would give me lots of room to expand, and would not give me any problems. I found that the Asus board was problem free. I've used other motherboards in other systems I’ve purchased, and I'm continually plagued by compatibility problems, but with this ASUS board there hasn't been a hitch.
In a nutshell, the board is loaded with features that I found very useful, including:
Support for Pentium III, II, and celeron processors – I went to a PIII 450…
Support for 100 mhz front side bus…and Support for PC100 memory – don’t go for anything less in today’s market.
The jumper free bios is very useful as well, for those who don’t want to have to open the case to try some over clocking J.
The 5 PCI slots (and 2 ISA slots) have been the biggest plus. The board does NOT have built in and Video, so the slots are useful to plug in your favorite audio card, modem, etc. It also has the AGP port (Accelerated Graphics Port) for your high-end video card.
The board fit perfectly into my old computer case. The documentation is also good, so installation took me about 2 hours, start to finish. I haven't needed to contact Tec support about it, so I don't know how that is, but the product I received was top notch.
If I had any complaints about it, it may be with the that it does not support DMA/66 hard drives (support DMA/33) and that it was not entirely clear how to hook up all the wires for the LED and Harddrive light on my PC….minor issues, but it took some fiddling to get it right. Finally, it may be a bit more expensive then some other boards, but it my opinion, the trouble you save in not having hardware conflicts is more than worth it.
Bottom Line: If you are looking to upgrade your motherboard, and want one that is compatible with your existing hardware, and provides a smooth upgrade, this board maybe be a good way to go.
