| bathurst101's Full Review: Filemaker Claris Homepage |
First its kinda hard to turn me off from a HTML authoring software, but let me tell you about my experience with "Claris Homepage 3.0"! Ok as I operate a web design and consulting firm, and go to High School all at the same time. I was thrown into our school's web page design, by force, not by enjoyment. I had an ultimatium of you pass the class or flunk the class (Advance Computer App.). So I went with design it, they gave us Claris Homepage, which almost every school as a cheap replacement to that of Microsoft Front Page xx*.
First it makes it to complicated for the Computer Illiterate. This may sound funny but it does, it totally opposite of what is said on Claris's site pretaining to it. It refers to it as user-friendly, yeah thats why it locked up and gave us Window's Blue Screen, why I try to write my meta tags. Second if you don't read the manual your dumb out of luck because of the tutorials, are lets say Trash. Unlike FB2K (Front Page 2000) you don't have a dumbie icon bar, or anything that Microsoft uses to make any of its products idiot proof. Third I thought the layout of what limited tool bars there is, was untastefully done, they should organize it in better logic, basic HTML first, Intermediate next, and finally advanced, but no their all scattered around.
Lets rap it up, in conclusion this product is untastefully done, product use-ability for the Computer Illerate is hard, but for the advanced computer person it seems confusing at first. Finally I disliked the way it works all together.
So in my beliefs spend the extra 50-100$ and buy Front Page 2000, or use any of your Microsoft Office products later then 1997, to do your HTML authoring.
*xx: stands for the number of the product such as 98, and 00. Which are most commonly used.
Thank You Very Much for taking your time, to read this, and hope I had better informed you on this product.
