| stevencrosbie's Full Review: Compaq Custom 1800 |
This is my first review and I hope it proves helpful to the people on the of purchasing a laptop.
I purchased this machine about three months ago. I needed a laptop to do presentations for BPA (Business Professionals of America). I am 15, but I needed a machine that could perform and withstand constant beatings. This machine meets the bill. It is by far the best value on the market ranging from 400 to 1000 dollars less than the Dell Machines. I personally bought it for 2745 dollars from Compaq.com. The purchase was easy and I received the machine within the week I ordered it. It ran perfect out of the box and boy is it fast. I can't believe how much 600 mhz is over my 450. I bought the pentium III, 64 megs ram, a 15 TFT, 12 gig, DVD, and the extended warranty. The machine comes with the internal network card, which is made by Intel, and it works flawlessly. The machine also comes with JBL pro speakers. These speakers will change the way you think about laptop speakers. They produce exceptional sound quality with little distortion. They even have little subwoofers on the bottom of the machine. No need for external speakers here. The screen is very bright and crisp. It can be viewed at almost any angle and I have not got a burned-out pixel yet. DVD playback is excellent and does not have any pauses because of a system hang. The TV out is great because it allows you to view movies on a TV. The touchpad works well along with the keyboard. Heat is not a problem so far either. I have used customer service once, and it returned a fast and easy fix. Other than a small software problem, I have had no others. I use it about 8 hours every day and never any freezes.
I do not have any complaints toward this product yet. I plan on getting a palm pilot to use with my laptop in the near future. My only suggestion would be to invest in a very good Targus laptop case. These things could be easily broke if you are not carful. I said it was sturdy, not indestructible.
My advise is to look on the equipment you need, then purchase this machine. I never was a fan of Compaq, but this machine has changed me. Go ahead and buy this machine and save yourself hundreds of hard earned dollars.
