People seem to confuse the computer with its given operating system. People say that an Apple computer is bad, because it doesn't run as many games as windows. The truth is, the OS has nothing to do with the system itself. So with that in mind, let me talk about the computer.
To put it bluntly, the G4 is faster than anything you can currently get (commercially). For $3400 you can get a 500mhz G4 with 256 megs of RAM, 27GB hard drive, a DVD RAM (read/write DVD) and a bunch of other stuff like ethernet and 3D acceleration card.
Some people say (and they don't know what they are talking about) well, I can get a 700mhz PC, which mush be faster! Well thats wrong. In fact, in Photoshop filter tests, the 500mhz Mac ran 3x faster than the PC 700mhz.
However, this does not mean that everything is faster on the Mac. Some software (Most Microsoft stuff) such as word processors run faster. This is not because the processor is slower in some instances, it is simply that Microsoft Word is designed to work fast on Microsoft Windows. However if you're a graphic designer, a Mac is a must.
Everything is the same with a PC. Most PCs gave 128 megs of RAM, while the Mac has 256 standard. Also, you can't get a DVD RAM on a PC.
Now some facts that show the value of a Mac:
1) The army uses a Mac for its webpage server because it can handle the input better than a PC.
2) Most computer generates movies were done on a mac. This includes Starwars.
3) The most impressive fact, the Mac G4 has been limited in export because it is considered a super computer, and can be used as a weapon by rouge nations.
Quite simply, the Mac is faster than the PC. If you want to anything that uses large amounts of data (graphics is a real big thing and is the G4s claim to fame) use the G4.
