As a person making the leap into graphics, photo, and video editing, I wanted more screen real estate, but I had a problem: space. Most 19" monitors are so big they would not fit into the computer hutch that I use. However, the Samsung 955SL (which I assume means short-length), fits the bill. I actually have more room in back of my monitor with the 19" 955SL than I did with my 17" Viewsonic! So for under $300 (there is a $30 rebate until 12/00, I believe) this was a great deal!
Picture quality is good, but not as sharp as my 17" Viewsonic V775. The colors are excellent, and I have no strange curves or lines on my screen. The screen brightness is just right, and the refresh rate can be set to 85Mhz with most resolutions. I typically use this monitor at 1280x1024. 1600x1200 is acceptable but a tad fuzzy for my taste. If you don't work with a lot of really fine text this monitor is great. If you just browse the Internet and play games, this monitor is a great deal. However, if you are a visual artist who is really looking for a super crisp picture, you may be disappointed.
Bottom Line: The Samsung 955SL is a compact 19" monitor that is inexpensive, and provides "good" picture quality. (college students and budget-minded home users will do well to buy this monitor)
*Update 01/07/01:
When I use certain colors as the background (forest green for example), I see some kind of interference pattern (is this the 'moire' problem I have heard about?). If anyone can tell me about this please email me!
