If your wallet is as lonely as mine is, Netzero is the perfect companion to ride the information super-highway with. Netzero provides you with 56k quality service without the hassle of bills and disconnections. If you can wade through a ten minute questionaire and don't mind having an endless commercial flashing before your eyes constantly, then Netzero is for you.
With so many Free ISP's out there, it's not hard to log on to the net free of charge. Other programs work just as well as Netzero, but contain a lot of other hassles that I hate to work through everytime I want to surf the net. Juno, another free ISP, requires an AOL-type window to be open (though not always on top) as well as a advertising banner that cannot be moved or closed. I don't mind the banner as much, but the other window takes up valuable RAM and CPU, which makes for a lousy time. The banner for both ISP's utilize Java as a mechanism of displaying its ads and it takes up some of that 56k speed. But, on the whole, it has been a pleasant experience using Netzero.
One problem using Netzero is the availability of its POP's. In urban areas, it's usually not a problem because Netzero offers several numbers to dial into. In more rural areas it becomes more of problem as Netzero usually offers but one number to dial into, or none at all. Luckily, I attend college in a small town that borders a small city in which Netzero provides service. I have had problems connecting due to habitual overactivity being as there is only one number for such a large communtiy of internet users. But, as of late, I have had absolutely no problems connecting (Netzero probably has upgraded its service down here). There have been times when I have needed to rely on Netzero soley because my college's internet line is overwhelmed.
56k is as good as it gets for us folk who are not able to purchase DSL or be connected via a T-1. And for the price of an endless barrage of ads, it's a bargain. So for all you lonely wallets out there, Netzero is willing and able to aid you in your internet endeavours.
