| sloney's Full Review: X10 XCam Anywhere |
The XCam has been advertised quite extensively and I suppose that has given X-10 some success. However, it is not quite all it is cracked up to be. Although the price is very good for it's small size and versatility the XCam has some problems.
The audio and video can be rather grainy and fuzzy at times even when there is no obvious interference. If you operate a microwave or similar device near the receiving end of the transmission it may lower the signal quality quite a bit. Also, note that although some of the advertisements seem to skim over the fact that there is a cord attached to the camera note that this camera is NOT cordless. If you wanted to mount it outside your door to see who is knocking and then hook it up to your TV the cord provided by X-10 is almost certainly not long enough and you will have to buy an extension (not to mention actually run the cord into your home and to the TV. In short this is a case in which a buyer should be well aware of the products limitations before they open their wallet.
