Apple's G4, the Lamborghini of computers

Written: Jan 19 '00
  • User Rating: Excellent
  • Ease of Use:
Pros:The ability to do a gigaflop and the velocity engine
Cons:Programs need to be rewritten to use the velocity engine to its full potential

Apple has been leading the way in computer innovations for about a year and a half now, and the G4 does not disappoint. With 128-bit processing power and the ability to do gigaflops, this makes the most powerful computer to date. This computer is so powerful that the government has had to regulate the sales to third-world countries.

What makes this computer so powerful. At the core of this system, lies the velocity engine, sometimes referred to as altivech. The velocity engine deals with the code in such a way that performance is boosted far above the standards of today. The only drawback to this is the fact that the velocity engine requires the program to be written in a way that the computer can use this new feature. If the program is older, it will work just fine, but it can't use the power that the velocity engine offers.

Apple has made nothing but good choices in this new line of computer. I highly recommend this computer to everyone that wants top of the line and high quality equipment.
