| wise2CBW's Full Review: Logitech Camera Family |
Logitech's QuickCam Express certainly isn't Quick like its name. Sure its easy to setup. Just plug it into your USB connection. But whether you are using the included Logitech Videophone software, with a link to a web based service (spotlife) or using MicroSoft's Netmeeting, unless you have a lot of bandwidth, you can forget a clear video phone conversation.
Our Experience:
Last year, my husband's parents are going to Florida for a few months. My father-in-law and my husband went to our local retailer for an easy to use and relatively inexpensive video phone. His parents want to keep tabs on our then 2 year old son.
My father-in-law has a 28.8K modem and we have a newer 56K. We'll first we only seem to get connected 1 out of ever 5 times. Finally, when we did, we either had a still blurry video image with choppy audio. or slow motion video with no audio. Then within 5 minutes either system would freeze up.
My father-in-law gets frustrated easily, therefore, when things weren't working immediately returned both cameras the day he got back from Florida.
This year before they went to Florida we decided to try again. This time we both have 56k modems and both have the same Quickcam express video cameras, and guess what, the end results have basically been the same. Eventhough my father-in-law has a new state-of-the-art PC.
In conclusion: If both parties don't have a cable modem or DSL the best you could hope for with this product is to take a video of youself and email it to someone as an AVI or MOV file. Maybe a better video camera would work, but I'm guessing its the bandwidth.
