I have had Net2Phone since November of 1999 (if memory serves me). I have to say in a pinch when my husband was laid off, Net2phone was a cheap and easy way to keep in touch. However, there is something seriously lacking in the customer service end of this deal.
You Get What You Pay For BUT...
I know what people think. "YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!" However, I paid $25.00 when I signed up with the promise that I would receive a set of headphones with a built in microphone. I did not have to sign up with $25.00. I did it so I could get the free headset. BUT I NEVER GOT IT. I called the company after about 8 weeks (allow 4-6 weeks for delivery). You just can not believe this but they could not hear because they were using Net2phone!!!! They finally gave me a number to call where a non-English speaking woman could not understand me and promptly hung up on me.
You think I would give up! However, I have not! I have e-mailed them at least 10 times without 1 single answer!!!!!
Yesterday, just for kicks I decided to call them at their new corporate office and guess what? Someone answered the phone and you could hear 2 female voices speaking in another language (I speak the other language but it is not important what language they were speaking in) and had no idea I was on the line. Finally one walked over and HUNG UP ON ME!!!
Is Good Service Worth the Money
YES!!! It is to me! If I have this much problems just calling to find out about their free headphones, imagine what would happen if I had technical difficulty?
I actually paid for that service, however, I suggest if you are going to put a "TELEPHONY" type application on your computer use PHONE FREE! At least if their customer service sucks, IT'S FREE!!!
