mattjoe's Full Review: Alien Trilogy for PlayStation 1
Ok, So the game doesn't follow the story line of the movie, It is based on the idea of going out, and hunting down the ALIENS. For that, it is a fun game. The weapons available are all the ones used in the movie ALIENS. This is a nice touch to fans of the movie, but will fans of the movie also hate the game because it isn't truthful to the storyline ?
It would seem so based on the other reviews in here. (Don't go read and rate the ones that are garbage reviews, as there are a few in this category)
Aliens was and is one of my top three favorite movies, and I did like this game, it was nice to see the graphics which were excellent, of the aliens, in all different stages. There were three different pahses of this game, the starting ship you are on, a crashed ship, then the mother ship/alien base. There were very many levels, and the aliens are hard to kill with certain weapons. Easy with others. Those who complain that this is a simple game and the queen is easy to kill have not played this game on the hardest setting. Sure, set the game on average or easy, and you can fly through it. But set the game on the highest hardest level, Xenomania, and I doubt you will even get to the final queen without the use of cheat codes. The hardest setting is the most fun after having cleared the game, Aliens are coming from everywhere, they hit you hard and fast, and it is more realistic, if you are basing realism on the movie, where you will not survive if an Alien gets close enuff to jump on you.
This is my favorite first person shooter style game as it is the only one where the weapons used are ones we have seen in movies. These other games, like Doom, start with real guns, then as you move along you pick up these giant creations that make no sense at all. Aliens is fun if you are not insulted by it not following the movie.
But no game should insult fans of the movie as much as ALIEN 3, the movie did.
